if you have any other tips...
I think there are maybe two issues wrong with this. The first is how the galaxy is placed on your painting. I think it should be more in the middle rather, with less spacing showing through, it seems ill placed to me. If you still like it in that position however, then I would think it may be best to flip the galaxy horizontally, to keep our eyes from drifting out of the painting.
The second thing which I think may be wrong is that you need to think carefully about the ambient lighting within a scene such as this. It is a gigantic scene, so there should in theory be a lot of ambient light inside and to some degree around the edge of the galaxy too.
Also I think the ambient light tends to cool off as it nears the edge of the galaxy, so I would pick a cooler shade of violet and brush this in around the edges to indicate this cooling off.
